Level: Upper Beginner---Mostly flats and can mostly stick to bike paths and farm roads. The first part from Daegu goes through Gachang main street which is a small town ride with more traffic. Gachang main street also is a gradual hill ride which makes going home with tired legs a breeze.
What is Gachang Red Bike Path and Gachang riding all about?
Gachang Red Bike Path (as seen on Naver Map is a red line and red dotted line) is the a bike path that runs along the main road of Gachang city and is the beginning for getting into more intermediate and advanced rides. Gachang has options for hills and mountains to challenge yourself on and there are many options for photographic destination rides once you get the hang of it. Mastering Gachang will get you into the position for some putting on some mileage as you pass into Cheongdo (the next city) and around.
Navigation: Upper Beginner/Low Intermediate. There are two ways to travel through. Straight off the bike path that leads through Gachang or swirling around the little hills and farms of Gachang. Just keep that in mind as you see bikers riding like gazelles of into the mountains. I'll be writing about how to get the main bike path as marked on Naver Maps (red line and red dotted lines).
From Downtown Daegu/Camp Henry: Bikers will need to head south on the Sincheon River and head into Gachang. Sticking to the river and crossing under the Gachang Bridge will lead out to another bike short bike path that goes past "Morning For You" apartment. Heading through Gachang, you'll see Daegu Forest/Hillcrest/Ecotheme Park (name changes frequently) and bikers will follow an right-ward sloping downhill (right past the S-OIL gas station on the right and before the LPG S-OIL gas station.
Following down the hill, you'll see SPA VALLEY hill and you'll pass that and see THE OLD ROAD restaurant and here is where bikers will want to take a left on to Gachang Restaurant Alley or (Jeonwon Restaurant District on the map).
Follow the road through Gachang Restaurant Alley (Jeonwon Restaurant District) and come to the end of the road where it meets the highway and oncoming traffic--instead of going to heaven early and going into oncoming traffic---take a look on your left and find the bike path.
For beginners, this bike path will dot a long the rest of Gachang (it can be found in NAVER MAP as a red line and dotted red line) and can be followed out to the end where it terminates right before the Cheongdo Tunnel and Paljeolro.
For intermediates and up, this Gachang bike path is used as a way home guide and most bikers will take to the small town and farm roads. These roads offer bike signage to keep you orientated without taking out your phone map a million times on your ride. Learning to read in Korean is essential to using these signs.
